Phi Beta Kappa - Beta Beta Beta
Student Organizations: Biology Club and Health Sciences Club
More than 725 students have graduated in the past decade with biology majors,
and many are engaged in careers like medicine, ecology, physical therapy, medical
technology, forestry, dentistry, veterinary medicine, conservation, environmental
education, and many other professions. In a number of these areas, students
find it necessary to obtain an advanced degree beyond the baccalaureate degree
in biology. In recent years about 60 percent of our biology graduates continue
their studies after leaving Luther. Our biology faculty have advanced degrees
from 10 different universities, and this diversity of experience has helped
us maintain an outstanding record in placing our graduates in quality graduate
and professional programs.
We currently have over 200 declared biology majors (Sophomore - Senior) with extracurricular interests that range from football to choir, soccer to volleyball, drama to golf, basketball to band, and cross-country to cheerleading. With approximately one-third of the freshman class indicating an interest in the biological sciences, it's likely that our students will continue to be a good representation of Luther undergrads.
